There is a huge range of blinds available, covering a variety of different designs and functions. It can sometimes be hard to decide which type of blind would be best for you when you’re faced with so many different options. At C&H we aim to take the pressure of you and work alongside your needs and desires to help you find the perfect blind. I have put together a short guide to the most popular types to help you get started!
Roller blinds are the most common type of blind as they are simple, affordable and easy to install. They are also the only type of blind that we sell as a ready-made enabling you to pop into any store and pick one up straight away. They come in a variety of different colours and designs to suit different rooms in your home. Within the ready-made blinds we offer a choice of blackout blinds, ideal for bedrooms or standard daylight blinds suitable for any room. The blinds are available in a range of set sizes, from 60cm to 180cm wide and all of the drops measure a maximum of 170cm.
Roller blinds can also be made to measure, the perfect solution if you would like a more personalised blind, with exact measurements and an extensive choice of designs. Some designs have extra benefits, for example moisture resistance, great for bathrooms.
Vertical blinds are very popular for larger windows for example in a conservatory. Often vertical blinds are a plain fabric however they are available in a range of colours from soft neutrals to bold bright colours. As a made to measure service there is a choice in the width of each vane as well as the size of your window. It is also possible to order the vanes only, ideal if you just need to replace your existing vertical blind.
Vertical blinds are drawn to the sides rather than the top of the window so neatly stack out of the way. The angle of the vanes can be adjusted to filter different levels of light into the room.
Venetian blinds are available in wood or metal, depending on the type of finish you prefer. Wooden venetians tend to be used throughout the home and create a warmer and cosier feel. They are available in neutral colours with a choice of slat depth and a decorative tape can be added to disguise the mechanisms. Most venetians are made from real wood however a faux wood is available for bathroom or kitchen blinds to stop any moisture absorption. Metal venetians are often used in offices or where a more urban appearance is required. They are available in a wider range of designs including bright colours.
Venetian blinds are drawn up to the top of the window and like vertical blinds, the angle of the slats can be adjusted to alter the level of light in the room.
Roman blinds are the most decorative of blinds as they are made from fabric. They can be used as a standalone blind, often for smaller windows such as a cloakroom or hallway. However, they can also be used alongside curtains to finish off a window treatment. Roman blinds can be made from any fabric, allowing you to choose a statement pattern or a simple plain, there are endless possibilities! The blind will draw up in folds and about 20cm of fabric will sit at the top of the window all the time. This means that the design won’t be lost when the blind is up and will always remain on show. However, it also means some light will be lost at the top of the window. Roman blinds are generally lined which gives you the option of adding blackout properties to your blind.
At C&H roman blinds would usually be handmade through our bespoke service, ensuring the highest quality is achieved. We do also stock roman blind kits which includes everything expect the fabric, if you fancy having a go yourself!
