The Closs & Hamblin Tunbridge Wells store is proud to announce its partnership with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Kent County Council, and the British Royal Legion, to be part of a county-wide campaign to create a carpet of knitted or crocheted poppies for this year’s Remembrance commemorations.
We’re asking you to get involved!
The project is absolutely huge, with Tunbridge Wells Borough council hoping to collect over 6000 knitted or crocheted poppies to create displays in various locations across the borough, and town centre.
Encouraging people to take part, Tunbridge Wells Mayor Julia Soyke said: ‘As the years go by, first hand memories of the two Wars are receding and it is vital that we continue to remember and honour those who lost their lives or suffered terrible injuries. With so many of us now having no experience of what Britain’s involvement in war was like, this wonderful campaign gives us the opportunity to stop and think, and it gives us a reminder on our doorsteps and window sills.’
The only rules are, the poppies have to be knitted or crocheted, and they have to be red and black like the British Legion logo; apart from that it’s up to you. They can be any size or using any pattern. There are many official collection points throughout the town, including Tunbridge Wells Gateway and the Weald Information Centre, plus you are welcome to drop your poppies at the C&H Tunbridge Wells store at 113/115 Mount Pleasant Rd where we will pass them on. Donate your poppies by Friday 20th October.
To help you, we have reduced our red & black 25g Robin yarn to just 50p a ball. This offer is available in the Tunbridge Wells store only, simply state the usage is for charity at till point.
If you’re looking for a knitting or crochet pattern, we can also help you with that! Download and print out either:
